New students are required to attend an orientation prior to registration. Returning students should make an appointment with an adviser prior to next quarter’s registration. Tuition is $25 per quarter.

Classes are for eligible students who wish to increase reading, writing, math, study, and employability skills while developing technology and communication skills to prepare for the workforce, GED®, state diploma equivalency tests, high school diploma for those 21 years old or older (HS21+), or further academic studies.

PREP 016 - PORTFOLIO

Students create a professional ePortfolio to demonstrate competencies in one or more subject matter areas for high school completion based on state guidelines. This course allows adults to work at their own pace and is designed to prepare them for a successful transition to college-level courses and to develop the behaviors and values relevant to success in higher education and the workforce (was ABE 088). This variable credit course (1 to 10 credits) allows students to obtain an internship in the information technology field in order to further develop their skills and abilities in a hands-on envrionment. Mathematics

New students must have their math skills assessed before they register for mathematics classes. To arrange for an assessment, visit the Testing Center in Mountlake Terrace 152 or call 425.640.1546. It is also critical that students take prerequisite classes prior to taking the more advanced classes. They will be dropped from classes if they do not demonstrate to their instructor by the third day of the quarter that they have satisfied the prerequisite(s). Students who have obtained a 2.0 or better in an advanced course, cannot then take a lower level math class without instructor permission.

For courses requiring a graphing calculator, instruction will be provided using the TI-83 or TI-84. If you already have another calculator, consult your instructor.

Mathematics - Individualized

In order to support the needs of a variety of student we offer self-paced math courses. Students can register for 2, 3, 4 or 5 credits to either complete a course from the previous term or start a math class. Students meet in the Math Center with an attendance requirement.

For Math 47/77/87, All five credits of Individualized Mathematics courses must be completed within 12 months to count as a prerequisite.

Math 97 must be completed within 2 consecutive quarters to count as a prerequisite for Math 141. See www.edcc.edu/math for further details.

Registration and course changes are permitted (see instructor) the first seven weeks of the quarter (six weeks in the summer). When a student completes a course they can enroll and begin in the next course in the sequence.

Textbooks should not be purchased until correct placement has been determined. Note: An additional fee is collected for classes offered in the Math Center.

MATH 077 - INTRODUCTORY ALGEBRA

Introduction to the concepts of algebra. Operations on signed numbers, solution of linear equations, exponents and algebraic fractions, and basic operations on polynomials. Includes a review of some properties and operations of arithmetic. Intended for students who have had little or no algebra recently. Occupational Safety & Health courses are designed to be completed online, allowing working students to complete a degree or certificate without having to come to campus.

Writing Skills are individualized, supplementary writing support classes. When enrolled in WRITE classes, students should also be enrolled in at least one other class with a heavy writing load. WRITE classes provide one-on-one support as students work on writing homework from their other classes.

Registration is permitted the first seven weeks of the quarter (six weeks for summer) as space is available. Variable credit range shown; please contact the department with questions before registration.
