Academic English

425.640.1478

The Academic English Department offers classes for non-native English speakers who want to pursue a certificate or degree on an EdCC Pathway. We offer courses focusing on academic reading, writing, critical thinking, and editing as well as further study of grammar, development of college-level vocabulary, and practice with speaking and listening skills.

English Placement Testing determines a student’s level and initial course placement. Non-native English speakers should take the LOEP English Placement Test in the Testing Center in Mountlake Terrace Hall, Room 152. The ACCUPLACER Test will not determine placement into AENGL classes. Students must show their permits or test results to their AENGL instructors the first day of class.

Mathematics

425.640.1679

New students must have their math skills assessed before they register for mathematics classes. To arrange for an assessment, visit the Testing Center in Mountlake Terrace 152 or call 425.640.1546. It is also critical that students take prerequisite classes prior to taking the more advanced classes. They will be dropped from classes if they do not demonstrate to their instructor by the third day of the quarter that they have satisfied the prerequisite(s). Students who have obtained a 2.0 or better in an advanced course, cannot then take a lower level math class without instructor permission.

For courses requiring a graphing calculator, instruction will be provided using the TI-83 or TI-84. If you already have another calculator, consult your instructor.
